    Responsibilities

     

    The Director of Operations is responsible for driving manufacturing best practices and transformational change throughout Hydroid production to meet overall business objectives. Provides leadership in the management and coordination of production operations to ensure that quality products are produced and delivered on-time and on budget, providing our customers complete lifecycle training, technical, and operational support of our products and availability requirements and meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers. Is a champion for positive direction and motivation to employees in order to maximize productivity and consistently meet production goal’s. Drives a culture and philosophy of Continuous Improvement.

    • Provides strategic vision for Hydroid operations that meets the 5-year Strategic Plan
    • Establishes overall manufacturing vision; plans, directs and implements world-class manufacturing best practices.
    • Translates customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products.
    • Determines methods and strategies for maximizing the financial, capital and manning assets while meeting the production schedule and objectives.
    • Identify, lead, and implement process improvement initiatives, based on lean manufacturing principles (e.g., kaizen, standard work, 5S) to improve efficiency, performance and productivity.
    • Provide effective management of resources and investments, including oversight of resource requirements, departmental budgets, staffing plans, management of vendors, and service.
    • Implements process improvements and automation required to improve output and productivity levels.
    • Ensures compliance with FAR Federal Acquisition Regulation
    • Ensures appropriate and sufficient facilities are available for all company business, including buildings, vehicles, test assets, and equipment.
    • Defines and implements key performance indicators to ensure department goals are being met. Analyzes variances and initiates corrective actions.
    • Leads efforts to continuously control costs, improve efficiency and increase productivity. Measures against best-in-class benchmarks.
    • Uses critical thinking skills and leadership ability to make and implement effective operational decisions.
    • Ensures that build procedures, and work instructions are current and documented according to ISO standards.
    • Coordinates with business to ensure production schedule are met and capacity is adequate.
    • Promotes open communication and effective information exchange with internal and external customers.
    • Promotes a culture of open feedback where employee needs are met.
    • Oversees hiring, training, performance evaluations, compensation recommendations, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
    • Assures team accountability by holding staff accountable for daily, weekly and monthly targets.
    • Maintains a clean and safe work environment; completes safety related reports and provides safety training in accordance with OSHA and internal requirements.
    • Oversees technical and professional development of the operations team.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, operations or related field.
    • Ten plus years of demonstrated progressively responsible operations management experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
    • Demonstrated success developing leaders and creating a high performance work environment.
    • Ability to understand and effectively relate to employees at all levels. Can promote a climate of positive employee relations.
    • Exceptional organization and decision making skills.
    • Expert-level skill in dealing with technical markets/customers/products.
    • Experience with capital improvements and managing return on investment.
    • Successful track record for building, and maintaining, strong internal and external customer relationships
    • Advanced proficiency of MRP/ERP Business system
    • A condition of this position will require the successful applicant to pass a government security investigation and must subsequently receive authorization to access US Department of Defense Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”) and potentially classified information.
    • The ideal candidate is an individual that can work in a fast paced environment; with a high attention to detail, excellent problem solving skills, ability to multi-task and enthusiastic attitude.

     

    A condition of this position will require the successful Applicant to pass a government security investigation and must subsequently receive authorization to access US Department of Defense Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”) and potentially classified information.
