  • Overview

     Kongsberg Underwater Technology Inc. (KUTI) supports the U.S. government, leading research institutions and commercial survey companies with turnkey marine technology solutions and technical services.  We develop, manufacture, market and support the Seaglider® AUV system from our Lynnwood, WA facility in close cooperation with the original developer, the University of Washington.  KUTI is a fully owned subsidiary of Hydroid, Inc. Both KUTI and Hydroid remain part of the Kongsberg group of companies.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    Supports new and existing products with mechanical support and design by performing the following duties.

     

    • Supports both new development and manufacturing efforts in mechanical design.
    • Supports installation of subsea acoustic systems on ships in dry docks and pier side.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in material selection for underwater applications with corrosion considerations, structural analysis (finite element desired), electronic packing, CAD and solid work modeling (SolidWorks).
    • Communicates designs and issues to each corresponding department.
    • Researches, develops, plan designs mechanical and electromechanical products for shipboard and underwater applications.
    • Oversees and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
    • Supports both Sales and Marketing Departments with engineering special quotes.
    • Provides documentation for manufacturing support and design.
    • Estimates labor and cost of materials for designs and applications.
    • Builds prototypes and tests fixtures for new design or to update existing designs and products.
    • Performs project management duties as assigned.
    • Travels to offsite locations as assigned.
    • Communicates and supports the efforts for each department with mechanical designs and implementations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and two - five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience using 3D modeling tools.
    • Experience with naval architecture and American Bureau of Shipping drawing approvals.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Office; Microsoft Excel; SolidWorks; Enterprise PDM and Internet Explorer.
    • The ideal candidate is an individual that can work in a fast paced environment; with a high attention to detail, excellent problem solving skills, ability to multi-task and enthusiastic attitude.
    • Valid Driver's License.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
    • Valid passport.

     

    A condition of this position will require the successful Applicant to pass a government security investigation and must subsequently receive authorization to access US Department of Defense Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”) and potentially classified information.
