    Kongsberg Underwater Technology Inc. (KUTI) supports the U.S. government, leading research institutions and commercial survey companies with turnkey marine technology solutions and technical services.  We develop, manufacture, market and support the Seaglider® AUV system from our Lynnwood, WA facility in close cooperation with the original developer, the University of Washington.  KUTI is a fully owned subsidiary of Hydroid, Inc. Both KUTI and Hydroid remain part of the Kongsberg group of companies.



    The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, direction, coordination and execution of the Seaglider Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) manufacturing operation. In this hands on role, the Operations Manager will ensure the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of Seaglider operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies. The Operations Manager will champion continuous improvement of the product and business processes through use of Lean principals and tools, positioning the business to dominate a rapidly growing market. The role will have tight ties to Home Office in Pocasset MA. 


    • Planning, scheduling and execution of business to the annual operating plan.
    • Monitor business performance and report through periodic metrics.
    • Exercise good independent judgment in daily business decision making.
    • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend/lead countermeasures to resolve.
    • Lead the use of ERP and other business information systems to align with policy and across sister sites.
    • Provide leadership and direction to design engineering and manufacturing on factory and process design, introduction of new products & capabilities, sustaining engineering, and maintenance.
    • Staffing and personnel development.
    • Developing and management of departmental budget.
    • Coach, motivate and train staff on meeting customer performance requirements, instill a culture of quality assurance and timely execution.

    Essential Functions

    • Manage efficient product flow through the value chain.
    • Establish standards of performance for staff and facility.
    • Full, hands-on working understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
    • Prior exposure to Lean or other formal continuous improvement methodology.
    • Solid working knowledge of:
      • Factory layout, cycle time, yield analysis and work flow
      • Supply Chain, procurement, inventory and materials management
      • Engineering design, new product introduction, and manufacturing readiness
      • Capacity planning, staffing, training and professional development
      • Quality assurance, non-conformance and corrective action
      • Configuration Management, BoM’s, and document control
      • Facilities, environmental health and safety
    • Communication Skills: compile data and run reports to support business performance metrics. Participate in periodic business planning meetings.
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through education; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
    • Encourage development of personnel through selected readings, seminars, trade shows, workshops and company-sponsored studies, training programs and individual goals and scorecards.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    • A Bachelor’s degree (BA. or BSc.) in engineering or a technical field.
    • History of growth in an Operations role to management level.
    • 10 or more years of related and transferrable experience in an electro-mechanical product manufacturing environment.
    • Skilled in supervision of exempt and non-exempt staff
    • Knowledgeable on product platform synergy in low to medium volume assembly and test of complex electromechanical systems
    • High energy and track record in a fast paced industry and market.
    • Experience in maritime or UUV Systems a plus.
    • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Deltek, Infor, or another ERP system required. Working knowledge of FileMaker Pro is a plus.
